There are many miracles attributed to the Brown Scapular. In this post I will share some more of these stories with you.
The Hurricane Miracle
In the year 1845 there was an English ship called King of the Ocean. A horrible hurricane broke out in the middle of the ocean. A man named Mr. Fisher and his family, who were not Catholics were aboard the ship.
Another man named John McAuliffe who was a devout Catholic and always wore his Brown Scapular was on the ship as well. The Fisher family came to the deck and starting praying to God for the storm to end. John’s deep faith in the Blessed Mother and knowing how powerful her intercession is, took off his Brown Scapular, made the Sign of the Cross and threw it in the raging ocean. A few minutes later the wind quickly died down and the hurricane stopped.
When the last wave brushed up on the deck it brought the Brown Scapular back to John. The Fisher family were in amazement and asked John what had happened. John told them all about this beautiful gift of the Brown Scapular. The Fisher family were so grateful they became Catholics.
Priest Higgins Miracle
Here is another of the many miracles attributed to the Brown Scapular. Father John Higgins was invited to a young couple’s home to celebrate Mass and have a BBQ. Shortly after he arrived he received an emergency phone call from the hospital to give last rights to someone who was dying. He drove as quickly as he could but when he arrived he saw the paramedics at the door and the gurney.
Anne who was the ER nurse said “Sorry, Father John you’re too late. He’s gone.” While they were removing the wires from the man he noticed that he was wearing a Brown Scapular. Father Higgins reached for the Scapular and touched it. Suddenly he heard a beep from the monitor. Then he head another one. Anne the nurse said, “What did you do?” Father said, “Nothing!”. Anne quickly connected the wires again and called for help.
The patient opened his eyes and said, “Oh, good Father I’ve been waiting for you.” I want to go to confession.” Father Higgins nearly fell over. Father did not get a chance to hear his confessions but he gave him an emergency absolution as they worked on him. A couple of weeks later the man came to him for confession and told him that the doctor couldn’t figure out what happened. The doctor tore up the death certificate he started filling out. The paramedics had come to see him in the hospital and showed him their notes. At the bottom of the page they wrote the time and place of death and then in big letters “BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE BY GOD.”
