The Presentation and the Finding of Our Lord in the Temple Mysteries

Here is my latest YouTube video – The Presentation and the Finding of Our Lord in the Temple Mysteries. In it, I am praying the Rosary and Nine Day Novena to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (Day 9). St. Pope John Paul II explains the events of these mysteries from his book, “The Rosary of Pope John Paul II: The 20 Mysteries”.

Day 9Joyful Mysteries

Fourth Mystery – The Presentation of Our Lord

(St. Luke 2: 21-24)

“And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, ‘Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord’) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, ‘a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.’”

“Jesus’ circumcision, on the eighth day after his birth, is the sign of his incorporation into Abraham’s descendants into the people of the covenant. It is the sign of his submission to the Law” (CCC, 527).

Fifth Mystery – The Finding of Our Lord in the Temple

(St. Luke 2: 41-47)

“Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. And when he was twelve year old, they went up according to custom; and when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it… After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them question; and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.”

“The finding of Jesus in the temple is the only event that breaks the silence of the Gospels about the hidden years of Jesus. Here Jesus lets us catch a glimpse of the mystery of his total consecration to mission that flows from his divine sonship: ‘Did you not now that I must be about my Father’s work?’ (Lk 2:49)” (CCC, 534)
