Red Rose for Sinners

St. Louis de Montfort talks about the red rose for sinners. We need this red rose because the Precious Blood of Jesus has fallen upon it, that it may save us from all danger.

So many unrepentant sinners and unbelievers crown themselves with worldly roses. St. Louis de Montfort stresses that they should be crowning themselves with the roses of the Most Holy Rosary. Their roses are those of pleasure, fortune, and fame, which will wilt away in no time. The roses of the Holy Rosary that sinners pray are the Our Father and the Hail Mary, which, when said devoutly, will never wilt and will bear much fruit and fragrance for us now and in the many years to come.

The worldly roses that people crave are cruel and will prick them during their lifetime. At their death, these roses will pierce them with horrible regret and, in some cases, for eternity. But if our roses have thorns, they are the thorns of Jesus Christ, who changes them into roses. And if they prick us, it’s only for a short time, so that our souls will be healed and delivered from the illness of sin.

St. Louis de Montfort tells us that we should crown ourselves with roses from heaven and say the Rosary every day. He says to pray three Rosaries, which are three little wreaths or crowns of flowers. There are two reasons for doing this. The first reason is to honor the three crowns of Jesus and Mary—Jesus’ crown of grace at the time of His Incarnation, His crown of thorns during His Passion, and His crown of glory in heaven—and, of course, the threefold crown that the Most Blessed Trinity gave to our Blessed Mother in heaven.

The second reason is so that we receive three crowns from Jesus and the Blessed Mother. The first is a crown of merit during our lifetime; the second, a crown of peace at our death; and the third, a crown of glory in heaven. He also says that if you say the Rosary faithfully until death, he assures you that, in spite of the gravity of your sins, you shall receive a never-fading crown of glory. Even if you are heading for damnation, have one foot in hell, and have sold your soul to the devil, sooner or later you will be converted, amending your life and saving your soul!

Wow! If that doesn’t get you praying the Rosary, nothing will!

Until next time,

Blessings,
Francine
