Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

This blog post is a companion post to my YouTube video where I am praying the Rosary and Nine Day Novena to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (Day 2). Each mystery will define the fruit of that mystery with a brief description helping us to grow in holiness and virtue.

Day 2Joyful Mysteries

First Mystery – The Annunciation of Gabriel to Mary

(St. Matthew 1: 18-25; St. Luke 1: 26-38)

The fruit of this mystery is humility. When Mary was visited by St. Gabriel her YES was the beginning of our salvation. She teaches us to be docile and to listen to the voice of God. We must turn to God in prayer in everything we do.

Second Mystery – The Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth

(St. Luke 1: 39-56)

The fruit of this mystery is love of neighbor. Mary teaches us to have charity for anyone who is in need by serving the poor, sick, lonely, etc. She went in haste to visit her cousin Elizabeth when she heard about the birth St. John the Baptist.

Third Mystery – The Birth of Our Lord

(St. Luke 2: 1-20; St. Matthew 1:18-2:12)

The fruit of this mystery is poverty of spirit. Mary depended on God for everything. She knew the need for God and was always open to His will. Jesus was born in a town called Bethlehem “Bread oven” in Hebrew and the word “manger” comes from the Latin word “to eat.”

Fourth Mystery – The Presentation of Our Lord

(St. Luke 2: 21-40)

The fruit of this is mystery is obedience to God and His will for us. Mary was the first and most perfect disciple of Jesus. When we are obedient to the teachings of the Catholic faith, we are imitating our Mother Mary.

Fifth Mystery – The Finding of Our Lord in the Temple

(St. Luke 2: 41-52)

The fruit of this mystery is respect for God and His teachings. Jesus was found teaching in His Father’s house to the scholars. He also had to be obedient to Joseph and Mary which is the fourth commandment “You shall honor your Father and Mother” (Exodus 20:12). Obedience is the first stage of growing in wisdom.
